Discovering Classical Music
This program offers a simple and enjoyable introduction to the wonderful world of classical music. Particpants will learn about the great composers and their timeless musical masterpieces. They’ll learn about the instruments that make up a symphony orchestra and the roles of the conductor and soloists. They will hear some of the amazing stories behind works like Beethoven’s ‘Eroica’ Symphony and Tchaikovsky’s ‘Pathetique’ Symphony, the spine-tingling works of Paganini and the tragic life of Mozart, the composer who fathered twenty-one children and the composer whose most famous work is four minutes of total silence. Other topics covered include how to get the most out of your listening experiences at home, in a concert hall or in a theatre and how to build a collection of your own classical music on CD and DVD.
