Topics

Week 1. HR and benefits it can have to business. Legal obligations when it comes to recruitment and ability to write a job description and recruitment advertisement.
Week 2. Legal needs when it comes to selecting staff. Write interview questions, conduct reference checks and understand the common mistakes people make when selecting staff.
Week 3. What is the Fair Work Act and be able to interpret an Award, especially in terms of pay and leave entitlements.
Week 4. What are our legal obligations regarding occupational health and safety and be able to conduct a risk assessment on a workplace.
Week 5. How performance management links to business planning, be able to develop performance agreements, set goals and understand how to prepare for a performance review.
Week 6. Conduct a performance appraisal, understand what factors contribute to poor performance, know how to deal with poor performance and understand how to legally terminate an employee.
Week 7. How effective Rewards and recognition are in retaining staff and understand that rewards and recognition do not need to be monetary / cost anything. Link learning and development activities to performance management, have a better understanding of how to effectively train / mentor staff and understand there are many forms to training.
Week 8. Legal obligations when it comes to workplace bullying and harassment. What constitutes harassment and how to manage it. Gain an understanding on the importance of valuing diversity in the workplace. How all aspects of HR can improve business processes and know which Government bodies to contac for assistance.
