Illustrator - Introduction

Students will gain a basic understanding of the Illustrator CS5 vector drawing software package, and some experience to create professionally designed illustrations.

Entry Requirements

This course requires a solid understanding of computers, importing, locating and opening files on a PC platform. It is also required that students have a working knowledge of the internet. Some sort of illustration/drawing ability is also a plus.

Student Instructions

Students are required to bring a notepad, pen and pencil. A memory stick/USB flash drive for saving and storing your work to take saved files between home and the course.

  • File structure and its importance.
  • Design principles and elements.
  • The program/software design workspace/layout.
  • Working with the program drawing tools and controls.
  • The importance of using layers.
  • Creating/saving industry standard documents.
  • Placing/importing the various content into illustrator.
  • Using both the pen and paint brush tools to create illustrations.
  • Selecting and manipulating objects.
  • Understanding colour
  • Exporting/ outputting pages to multiple media. (Web and Print)

This course is designed to cater to the individual learners need. It is predominantly self-paced with hands on facilitator instruction and assistance.
