Indesign - Introduction
This course is aimed at the introductory level, which will give you a sound understanding of the software used within the graphic design/advertising industry and also provide you with the relevant experience to create professionally designed multi-page documents for both print and web.
Entry Requirements
This course requires a solid understanding of computers, importing, locating and opening files on a PC platform. It is also required that students have a working knowledge of the internet.
Student Instructions
Students are required to bring a notepad, pen and pencil. A memory stick/USB flash drive for saving and storing your work to take saved files between home and the course.

- File structure and its importance.
- Design principles and elements.
- The program/software design workspace/layout.
- Working with the program tools and the importance of layers
- Creating/saving industry standard multi-page documents.
- Placing/importing the various file types.
- Effective page layout principles
- Understanding colour
- Setting character/paragraph styles for formatting text
- Exporting/ outputs pages to multiple media. (Web and Print)

This course is designed to cater to the individual learners need. It is predominantly self-paced with hands on facilitator instruction and assistance.
Outcomes
Students will gain a basic understanding of the Indesign CS3 page layout software package and gain knowledge in prepress print requirements, correct file size and formats, as well as good graphic design elements and principles.
