An introduction to the concept of simulating buildings using ArchiCAD software allows accurate, realistic 3d pictures of design concepts, including furniture and landscaping. The software allows virtual reality walk through, perspectives with sun shading and calculation of material quantities and drafting of construction plans.

Entry Requirements

Sound computer knowledge is essential. If you are not competent using a computer you will not be able to start this course.

Student Instructions

Bring a blue or black pen, pencil and writing paper, highlighter pen, A Memory stick/USB flash drive for saving your work and taking your files home.

Topics

Setup, Drawing, Dimensioning, Layers, Objects, Scaling, Basic Renders. How to obtain and install version of the program will be discussed as part of the first lesson.

Revit CAD Design essentials

This course will enable the student to produce a basic set of residential house plans suitable for analysis by a licensed Building Designer, Architect or Structural Engineer. (Please Note: It is not legal for individuals without a current BSA Building Services Authority Building Design licence to submit Architectural Plans to local authorities).

Entry Requirements

Sound computer knowledge, basic understanding of an Architectural Floor Plan.

Student Instructions

Bring a pen (blue or black), exercise book or notepaper, highlighter pen, memory stick/USB drive (2GB min) for saving of projects for use on your home computer. (Calculator optional)

Topics

Basic understanding of the Revit interface including: understanding levels, creation of the 3D model, creation of 2D views (elevations and section), creation and import of a base Site Plan, creation of a Floor Plan including slab, walls, windows, doors, addition of 3D library objects, creation of a roof (including fascia/gutter), basic dimensioning and notation.

Career Prospects

Design/Drafting office training, progression to CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) operator. Further study of Architectural Technology.

Delivery Style

Classroom delivery with all students having access to individual hi-spec computer (PC) terminals, presented using digital projector, short in class tasks with student version of Revit available for free download for all students.

Starting with the basics of AutoCAD, the main project will involve the drawing of a house-plan, from start to fully dimensional and scale plan, complete within a title-block. Sound computer knowledge required

This course follows on from Revit CAD Design Essentials and will enable the student to produce a basic set of residential house plans suitable for analysis by a licensed Building Designer, Architect or Structural Engineer.
