Digital Video Editing - Introduction

This is your chance to take all those hours of holiday footage and turn them into a keepsake that is inspirational and interesting! Through a combination of hands-on tutorials, this course will give you the basic knowledge required to complete your own short, edited video. Whilst we can provide stock footage to work on, you are encouraged to bring in your own whether it is for home or a corporate video.

By the end of the course, using Adobe Premiere Elements software, you will understand how to transfer footage from your camcorder to your hard disk and import it into the editing package. You will be able to shape those clips into a film using the editing package’s timeline, add transitions, effects, titles plus sound and finally export your completed movie for fascinating viewing.

Please bring a pen and paper, your own digital movie footage to work on (optional), a memory stick/USB flash drive for saving and taking your work home, plus your own headphones.

Students will gain a basic understanding of the Illustrator CS5 vector drawing software package, and some experience to create professionally designed illustrations.

Entry Requirements

This course requires a solid understanding of computers, importing, locating and opening files on a PC platform. It is also required that students have a working knowledge of the internet. Some sort of illustration/drawing ability is also a plus.

Student Instructions

Students are required to bring a notepad, pen and pencil. A memory stick/USB flash drive for saving and storing your work to take saved files between home and the course.

This is an introductory course and will give you basic ground knowledge in the use of layers and basic image enhancing and photo colour correction to help you progress to more advanced Photoshop CS5 and multimedia courses. Learning Photoshop CS5 would also help you to understand lesser digital imaging software such as Adobe elements.
